GoPro is officially releasing their own drone!

“Quad something or other…” Watch the clip and you’ll probably laugh when she says it as well..

Nick Woodman officially announced that a GoPro quadcopter is on deck and in product development.

It is scheduled to be released in the first half of 2016.

Nick couldn’t comment on the cost of the quadcopter but he reminded us that all GoPro products are aimed at consumers with a professional level of quality.

In the interview, Woodman goes beyond the discussion of quads and expresses his concern for not being fast enough to capitalize on market trends and be the first mover with limited competition. I found this to be a bit ironic since there are already a few GoPro-specific quadcopters in the market such as the DJI Phantom 2, the 3DR Solo and AirDog to name a few.

Do you think GoPro will be successful with their attempt to enter the drone market? Tell us your opinion below!

  1. I can see this being a great entry into a field that is still focused around the video content creating field. Although, unless they bring their quad copter in, and it isn’t as good as others for a cheaper price, or it isn’t better than others for the same price. I would have to stick to someone who is primarily in the quad copter business.

  2. The consumer drone market is still new and a tech company like GoPro will only push the limits of the entire market as it matures over the next couple of years and even if they fail, it can only be good to help push companies like DJI and 3DR to keep pushing the boundaries of consumer drones for aerial photography
