GoPro Hero4 Session Review

GoPro HERO4 Session Video Review by Wired

I’ve watched a few GoPro HERO4 Session reviews and I’d say this is definitely one of the best ones.

It comes to us from Brent Rose who is a Technical Writer over at WIRED.

It’s worth it to watch the video as it covers the shape, image quality and sound quality in a number of different situations. The key takeaways are:

  1. The HERO4 Session’s shape is amazing in the sense that it takes up a small footprint (1.5 inches cubed!).
  2. The video quality of the Session takes a step back compared to the HERO4 Silver.
  3. If you have a pet mouse and want to capture epic GoPro footage from his point of view, this is the camera for you.

The bottom line is you’re paying a premium for the small form factor so unless you absolutely need to have the smallest camera, I have to side with Brent’s recommendation of going with the HERO4 Silver.

Considering the decrease in video quality compared to the equally-priced HERO4 Silver, I would certainly like to see a lower price tag. Size is important but video quality is more important.

With all of that said, my opinion may change after I get my hands on my own Session.

So over to you! Do you agree or disagree with his opinion of the HERO4 Session?

  1. Great review. I agree on the lack of camera control settings. Some don’t have the updated software on the GoPro App, nor do some own the remote. So the Hero4 Session gets a huge nick on the setting controls. Thanks for sampling the image quality. Hero 4 Silver beats it in that area.

    1. Yeah, forcing you to use the app or smart remote is one of the downsides, but I would say most people who have a GoPro will have a smart phone. If not, you can always pick up a used smart remote for less than what it costs new.

  2. I was really hoping that the Session was the answer. I need the smaller form factor, but the lack of video quality makes misses the whole point. Guess I need to wait for the Session 2

    1. I think GoPro is on the right track. Like you said, the Session 2 should be better in terms of video quality and video modes (I would think).
