Thread: Gopro hero 3 battery life

Recording only lasts a couple of hours on battery if you're recording. Maybe two or three hours depending on charge. If you want more battery life, you might want to look into getting a supplemental and portable USB charger and carry that with you too. They are small and can provide you with a few extra hours.

I think there is a one-button mode that you can enable to automatically begin recording whenever the camera is turned on. Check out the user manual on GoPro's website for more on that.

I just got the GoPro Hero3 Black, so far i can only get 1 hour out ouf the battery which came with it. The screen says i will get 2 hour 15 mins but no cigar!

I checked out the GoPro support pages and it recommends that you charge and deplete 3 times before you get the full battery strength, im up to charge no.2 so will see how this pans out, it also advises about temperatures. In colder temperatures you get less power, well its currently 17degrees Celsius, i wouldn't consider that an extremely cold temperature.

So far, not impressed with the battery but all in all, i am loving the GoPro Hero 3 Black despite the battery life, will look at the BacPac for it!

That 2 hour and 15 minute display on the screen is an estimate of how much recording time is left on the card in the current resolution/frame rate.

1080p60 with BacPac
about 3 hours

I shot with my H3B on Thanksgiving and then shot again on Sunday without charging and there was no drain whatsoever. It sounds like you may need a separate charger rather than relying on the USB ports on your computer.
