GoPro HERO4 Session

GoPro HERO4 Session

There were some rumors whirling around last week about a new GoPro camera and they are now confirmed! Here is the ALL NEW GoPro HERO4 Session.

GoPro Hero4 Session

The Session is the smallest and lightest GoPro camera ever made: 50% smaller and 40% lighter to be exact.

The camera is priced at $399 and will include some brand new mounting options:

First, there is the low profile mount which allows the camera to stay low to the mounting surface.

And the next one is the ball joint mount which will allow you to easily point the camera in almost any direction.

GoPro users will be most interested in the resolutions so here is a list of video modes:

  • 1440p at 30 / 25 fps
  • 1080p at 60 / 50 / 30 / 25 fps
  • 1080p SuperView at 48 / 30 / 25 fps
  • 960p at 60 / 50 / 30 / 25 fps
  • 720p at 100 / 60 / 50 / 30 / 25 fps
  • 720 SuperView at 60 / 50 / 30 / 25 fps
  • WVGA at 120 / 100 fps

You must be thinking: Oh no, NEW CAMERA means OLD MOUNTS WON’T WORK! But the good news is that the HERO4 Session is compatible with ALL previous GoPro mounts.

The Standard Hero4 Session will include the following:

  • HERO4 Session camera
  • Standard frame
  • Low-profile frame
  • Curved adhesive mount
  • Flat adhesive mount
  • Ball joint mounting buckle
  • Mounting buckles and hardware
  • Micro USB cable

More features:

  • Protune for videos (doesn’t look like Protune for photos is available)
  • Auto Low Light
  • Dual Microphones (this is a first! This micro camera features microphones on the front and back to optimize sound quality)
  • 8 MP photos
  • Time lapse photos every 0.5 to 60 seconds
  • Photo burst mode of 10 photos per second
  • Compatible with the GoPro App and Smart Remote
  • Waterproof to 33 feet (10M)
  • One-button mode (turn it on and it automatically starts recording)
  • HiLight Tagging
  • Built-in battery offering up to 2 hours of recording time

The HERO4 Session is the innovation we’ve been waiting for from GoPro!! Something fresh and different that what we’re used to! The HERO4 Session will be even less intrusive than the previous cameras due to its smaller size and light weight. We can’t wait to see more Session footage and reviews!

With that said, we do think the price point is a bit high. Don’t forget you can get even more performance from the HERO4 Silver for the same price.

  1. GoPro is definitely focusing on making their product line more simple and more user friendly. It’s nice that old mounts work, but the price tag is steep.

    • We’ll see how the public reacts when they go on sale on the 12th! I would have liked to see it priced at $250-$299.
